Inside Claims adjuster (Trainee)

About this position

This person reports to the Unit Supervisor through a Team Leader Adjuster and is responsible for the investigation and resolution of most claims that are reported. An inside adjuster is responsible for learning and applying our Claims Best Practices in the handling of their files to ensure our quality standards are met. This includes great customer service, quality coverage and liability investigations, and timely resolution of files. An Inside Claims Adjuster is expected to handle an inventory of claims up to 125 features or exposures.

Tasks & Responsibilities

The Inside Claims Adjuster is expected to provide quality customer service to both our policyholders and third party claimants alike. This entails prompt investigations, quality file decisions, and conveyance of those decisions to customers, peers, and managers as needed. Customer service surveys, customer complaints, and DOI complaints are tools that will be utilized to measure and provide feedback in this area. This person must be able to effectively manage and resolve minor bodily injury claims. They must also be able to identify and effectuate BI Cashouts within the team through the use of our Meds Incurred and Open Meds Release which requires good negotiation skills. Success in this area is measured based on the Individual and Team’s contribution to the Unit cashout % as captured by the metrics system in Cognos.

Requirements

Experience: Experience in the insurance or related fields is preferred also. Knowledge: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of Claims Best Practices, tort laws in the states we do business in and Department of Insurance regulations, particularly each state’s fair claims practice act. Decision making and problem-solving skills. General office skills including faxing, copying and filing. Typing 30 WPM. Computer Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows 95 or above, Microsoft Access, AS 400 system and Internet browsing.
